A 211 Service Navigator answered a call from an older adult in Saint John, New Brunswick. They were requesting many resources regarding dental services, home repairs, financial assistance for seniors with low incomes and health care expense assistance. The underlying issue was financial; their lack of financial means made it difficult to afford some of their basic needs.
The Service Navigator assessed the caller’s circumstances and eligibility for different programs. Many of the caller’s questions were about affordable health care. The Navigator was then able to offer them many resources for their needs. She found out that they were not connected with the Canadian Dental Care Plan or the New Brunswick Drug Plan. She gave contact and application details for both programs. She asked several questions about the caller’s income and discovered that they did not know about the New Brunswick Low Income Seniors Benefit, so they were referred to that program. Finally, they were referred to Social Development for the Homeowner Repair Program. The caller took down all of the information and thanked the Service Navigator for the efficient help.
