Province of Manitoba announces funding for 211
Today, the Province of Manitoba announced $510K in funding for United Way Winnipeg to support 211 Manitoba. The funding will support the operation of 211 service (phone, website, and online chat) for all Manitobans for one year.
Since launching on Oct. 15, 2020, the 211 Manitoba phone line has received more than 6500 calls from more than 140 communities with the largest percentage of calls (approximately 80%) originating in Winnipeg. Caller needs have been varied, with callers seeking help related to basic needs, mental health and addictions, income support or financial assistance, and family related services.
“United Way Winnipeg and our donors are so pleased to have the Manitoba government’s support in helping to ensure full-service 211 is available for all Manitobans,” said Connie Walker, president and CEO, United Way Winnipeg. “We know 211 is a valuable resource for Manitoba families, especially so during the pandemic. More than 6,500 Manitobans from across the province have been able to access the right help at the right time since the launch of 211 phone service in October.”
